June 10th, 2017

It's opening day from DreamWorks WaterWorks at Universal Studios Florida Resort. Crowds have come from all over the country to experience the four different areas themed to How to Train Your Dragons, Shrek, Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda and brave the headlining water slides.

The "not-so" lazy King Julian's Move It Move It River was a big hit, offering a fast-paced take on a classic water park feature than spanned the entire park as promised. Shrek's Mudslide contained the longest lines of the day as guests anxiously waited for their chance to slide through artificial mud before washing off in the pool below.

From the get go, it's clear that the main draws of the park are the two five-way series of dueling slides themed around the Dragon Riders of "Berk" and and Furious Five from "Kung Fu Panda". Each of the five slides in the respective dueling sets offered various levels of thrills from high level intensity to family friendly fun.

The following is the official list of attractions located at DreamWorks Water Works

This blog has been following the development of the park since it was first announced two years ago. Feel free to scroll down for a chronological history of how Universal unveiled all the offerings.

June 10th, 2016

A year ago to this date, plans were unveiled for the first water park to hit Universal Studios Florida based entirely around the DreamWorks animated films. Later that summer we learned of the main headliner attractions of the park including the world's largest "not-so-lazy" river, Shrek's Mudslide, a series of slides based on Kung Fu Panda's Furious Five, and a large collection of slides based around the main "riders" of the How to Train Your Dragon series.

After learning of the dining that would be available in the park in a surprise Thanksgiving announcement, news came to a standstill until today. It gives us great pleasure to announce the full attraction line-up for "DreamWorks Water Works".

The park will contain a small main street type area build around the concept of the child fishing from the moon from the DreamWorks logo. This will be a small transitional area into the main park which will feature light dark blue shades everywhere as well as simulated clouds and stars. This area doesn't have a name or any attractions, it's simply used to transition guests into the larger themed areas.

The first land guests will hit is Berk which will be located in the center of the park. The mountainous layout of the area will naturally turn it into one of the main icons of the park. As mentioned before, there will be five slides including a double-sided dueling body slide themed to the five main characters of the HTTYD series and their respective dragons. Outside of the dueling body slide, the other four will use inner-tubes. In addition to this, "Drago's Fury" will be a thrilling vertical drop body slide from 160 feet in the air, themed around the main villain from the second film.

Far Far Away will be located to the left of Berk. Shrek's Mudslide will be located at the top of a hill overlooking the Hollywood-esque namesake area. Duloc will play host to a queue for "Lord Farquad's Dragon Quest" a slide that uses the "toilet bowel" design except themed to the chamber of Dragon and featuring a huge AA of her likeness. Meanwhile a dark blue "thrill" slide themed after the Fairy God Mother will wind its way through Far, Far Away itself.

this slide design will be enclosed and feature an AA of Shrek's Dragon

The Furious Five slides will be the main focal point of Kung Fu Valley, but a smaller more kid-friendly slide based on Po will also be included. Kung Fu Valley will be located on the right side of Berk. Far, Far Away and Kung Fu Valley both contain paths with access to Madagascar, located in the back of the park.

As previously mentioned, "King Julian's Move It Move It River" will be the largest "not-so" lazy river at any water park and will wind its way through a large course themed to the jungles of Madagascar. "Melvin's Follies" will be a light slide for kids. "Operation Penguin" will offer kid-sized thrills and serve as a mini version of the larger Furious Five and Dragon Riders slides offering three way dueling action with slides based on each of the three main Penguin characters of Rico, Skipper, and Chief.

The park has been confirmed to span 75 acres and will open in one year from today on June 10th, 2017.

Thanksgiving 2015

For a few months news on USF's upcoming Dreamworks themed water parks has been at a standstill as we await the full attraction lineup. In a surprise announcement on Thanksgiving Day, Universal gave fans a respective taste of what the water park will offer...specifically, the dining options.

Guests visiting Berk will be able to grab all the usual theme park food at "Gobbers", a snack stand themed to the lovable character voiced by Craig Fergusen. Far, Far Away will feature two dining options, "Princess Fiona's Royal Dining Hall" which is the park's main table service location serving up fairy tale inspired dishes, as well as "Donkey's Waffle Hut" where Donkey fulfills his famous promise of making waffles for guests on the way up the hill to Shrek's Mudslide.

Guests can get a taste of Mr. Pang's Famous Noodles at...Mr. Pang's Famous Noodles! Located in Kung Fu Valley. Finally, "Marty's Afro Circus Treats" offers all the various sweets you'd find at a circus.

That's all the news for now as we await a concrete list of attractions for the highly anticipated park.

August 16th, 2015

Universal Studios took the theme park world by storm when they announced the first water park for their hugely successful Florida resort which is to be themed entirely around the top franchises from DreamWorks Animation Studios. A couple months have gone by, and now we have a bit more info to share, pertaining to the main headliner attractions which will be available on opening day. While it's assumed that many more attractions are to follow, Universal proudly unveiled one key slide for each of its four lands themed around "How to Train Your Dragon, "Kung Fu Panda", "Madagascar", and "Shrek", respectively.

Dragon Riders at "Berk"

As expected, the main selling point of the "How to Train Your Dragons" themed area will be a series of dueling slides themed around each of the main characters and their respective "pets". The four slides will be "Toothless", "Stormfly", "Hookfang", "Meatlug", and an advance dueling body slide known as Zippleback, themed to Barf and Belch, the two headed dragon owned by the twins.

Each of these slides will wind their way through the cliff-side viking town of Berk and pass familiar icons from the film such as the field of sheep and Gobber's shack, as well as AAs of the various namesake dragons.

Each of the slides will take on unique characteristics based on their respective dragons. While most of this still remains a mystery, Universal has unveiled that the slide based on the twins two-headed dragon will be a dueling body slide, allowing for two riders to take the plunge at the same time. All five of these slides will wrap around each other and offer a thrilling synergistic experience.

The Furious Five at Kung Fu Valley

Monkey, Tigress, Mantis, Monkey, and Crane will all be represented in a twisting and turning five-way dueling body slide that wraps its way around Kung Fu Valley. Each of the five slides will have slightly different layouts and range from fairly gentle (mantis) to very intense (Tigress) to give riders of all ages a variety that suits their particular thrill level.

King Julian's Move it Move it River! at Madagascar

This is one water park river that won't be "lazy"! King Julian's Move it Move it River will be the largest "lazy river" attraction at any water park in the world, covering not only the span of the Madagascar area itself (which was revealed to be the main "children's" area of the park) but also wind its way through the other three areas of the park as well. Sections of gently rushing water and "rapids" will enable the river to always remain active and engaging.

Shrek's Mudslide

Perhaps the main visual icon of the park, Shrek's mudslide will take place on the top of a hill overlooking Far, Far, Away, where the ogre has found himself a new swamp to call him. Artificially produced "mud" will be mixed into a series of three vertical body slides which will wash off of guests as soon as they hit the pool below, giving them a simulated feeling of the dirt-infested lifestyle that Shrek embraces. The attractions featured in Doluc and Far, Far Away itself remain a mystery as Universal keeps their cards relatively close to the chest regarding the water park's largest area.

That's all the info we have for now. Exciting things are on the way as we move towards the park's summer 2017 opening date.

June 10th, 2015

This is a huge day for Universal Studios. Not only has Jurassic World finally opened up to the public, but there's been a major announcement regarding a future project for Universal's Florida resort. USF is currently enjoying a huge boost in ticket sales due to the success of the cross-park "Wizard World of Harry Potter" additions. In addition to a new "King Kong" attraction on the way for Islands of Adventure, the resort anounced its first water park, which will be themed exclusively to the library of DreamWorks animated films owned by the company.

DreamWorks WaterWorks will feature four large main areas of the park themed to the most celebrated and sucessful franchises that DreamWorks has to offer. The opening day lineup will include...

Berk

This land based off of the beloved "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise will be themed around the Norse mythology used in the film and feature a large variety of slides themed to the different dragons that inhabit the world.

Kung Fu Valley

Based off of Kung Fu Panda, this land will celebrate the art style of ancient china while giving brave guests the chance to slide down one of the "Furious Five" slides themed to the different characters in the elite group.

Madagascar

Guests can move it, move it all the way to Madagascar for a series of themed slides as well as the park's resident "lazy river" attraction.

Far, Far Away

The parks largest area will play host to Dreamworks' most sucessful series of films. This large land will feature three sub-areas in Shrek's swamp, Duloc, and the titular Fairy Tale Hollywood known as Far, Far Away.

Few details area known about the attractions that will be in the sub-area besides the Furious Five racing slides in Kung Fu Valley and specific dragon themed slides for Berk. Still, this is a very exciting next step for the resort and should be a major success given the staying power of the source material it's based off of. As of right now Universal is aiming to have this park completed for a Summer 2017 release. This blog will keep you posted with updates and news as it rolls in.
